October Reflections

Now that we have had a couple of weeks exploring the AP US History curriculum, please comment how you are handling the process.

Some things to consider:

What has been you biggest adjustment?

How are you navigating through all the print, digital, and multi-media resources that are available to you?

How has the outside reading prepared for mutliple choice and essay assesments?

Has the journal served as an effective study tool?

Thanks for joining the conversation.

MR. H

PS - Happy Homecoming weekend :)

I think there are several students that are going through this "adjustment" period. Hopefully the rigors of the course and the skills you pick up mastering the material will set you up for college success.

The biggest adjustment for me is the hw, global hw was so much easier and i could do it the night before.I use all the things you put on the website i print them out to study from as well. The outside reading hasn't really helped me i just look at the notes. The journal has helped me because some of the journals are helpful to rember things

Mr. H...I suggest you have Tani stand on her desk and yell "Yawp" as loud as she can. It helps her to feel more comfortable with the class. She really enjoyed that in English 10.

This course has been much more challenging then I thought it would be. Last year in Global History I would come in for a test barely study at all and get still get like a 100 on it. This year the test are much harder and require much more time of studying and preparing however I think as the year goes on I will adjust to them much better. Like Beaner, I have a hard time reading from the text for an extended period of time my mind wonders a lot and I have to reread things many times. I think my Journal has been a good study tool for me however I think my best study tool so far has been those packets you give us with all the information about the topic in them, I really like those and hope you keep giving them to us.

Rest assured Dan B, I will never assign busy work. Every assignment and reading is designed for a specific purpose. It may serve as background info, an introduction to new material, or review for a concept or topic we discussed in class. You should begin to see patterns and themes between what we are talking about in class and what you should see in the reading.

Be careful with college students and their comments on work load. Always qualify their observations with a follow up comment such as "how did you do last semester?"

I picked up a couple flash drives to load Podcasts. I plan on giving you some upcoming shows ahead of time so we don't run into problems.

Point taken. College certainly is not one size fits all. For some the work load is light and the classes come easy. For others it is all night cram sessions and a struggle balancing academic, athletics, and independence. It depends on a variety of factors - type of student, type of attitude/approach, specific major/program etc.
